Del. Man Charged In Bizarre Castration Plot

HOCKESSIN, Del. (CBS 3) ― A Delaware man has been arrested after being accused of arranging a bizarre plot that involved castrating his ex-son-in-law.

Wilbur Eichman has been charged with one count of criminal solicitation after he paid a man cash to beat up his ex-son-in-law.

Police say Eichman paid 34-year-old Charles Pernot $1,200 to beat up the victim and even offered up a bonus if Pernot cut off the victim’s genitals.

“He offered or suggested he use a high power rifle and he said that if you castrate him, there will be a bonus in that for you, an additional $3,000,” Corporal Trinidad Navarro said.

Investigators said Eichman even wanted his ex-son-in-law’s genitals brought to him.

Police said Pernot attacked the 44-year-old victim on December 11 in the stairwell of his apartment by striking him in the face and demanding money during the assault. Pernot fled the scene when the victim began to yell for help.

“The next day, our victim receives a phone call from the person saying he’s the assailant, he’s the one who was hired essentially to beat him up,” Navarro said. “And he had some information that somebody that the victim knew wanted him hurt.”

Navarro said the assailant told the victim that if he wanted the information, he would have to pay $500.

“So they agree to meet in a public place and it’s at that point he hears the conversation on this person’s cell phone and recognizing the voice as his ex-father-in-law,” Navarro said.

Pernot was charged with attempted robbery, attempted burglary and conspiracy.

Eichman was arrested late Saturday and charged with one count of criminal solicitation. He has been arraigned and released after posting a $500 secured bail.

Paul Scofield died he was 85

David Paul Scofield, CH, CBE (21 January 1922 – 19 March 2008) was an English award-winning actor of stage and screen. Noted for his distinctive voice and delivery, Scofield received an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for his performance as Sir Thomas More in the 1966 film A Man for All Seasons, a reprise of the role he played in the stage version at the West End and on Broadway for which he received a Tony Award. He is considered by many to be one of the best British actors of the 20th century.

Scofield was born in Hurstpierpoint, Sussex, and began attending the Varndean Secondary School in Brighton at the age of 12 where he took various roles in school plays.

He went up to Oxford in 1939, where he famously shared digs with Kingsley Amis and Philip Larkin[4] before leaving university to pursue his acting career. Scofield began his stage career in 1940 with a debut performance in Desire Under the Elms at the Westminster Theatre, and was soon being compared with Laurence Olivier. In 1947, he starred in Walter Nugent Monck’s revival of Pericles, Prince of Tyre at the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre in Stratford.

An actor of extraordinary intelligence, Scofield was noteworthy for his striking presence and distinctive voice, and for the clarity and unmannered intensity of his delivery. His versatility at the height of his career is exemplified by his starring roles in theatrical productions as diverse as the musical Expresso Bongo (1958) and Peter Brook’s celebrated production of King Lear (1962). In his memoir Threads of Time, Peter Brook wrote about Scofield’s versatility: “The door at the back of the set opened, and a small man entered. He was wearing a black suit, steel-rimmed glasses, and holding a suitcase. For a moment we wondered who this stranger was and why he was wandering onto our stage. Then we realized that it was Paul, transformed. His tall body had shrunk; he had become insignificant. The new character now possessed him entirely.”

In a career mainly devoted to the classical theatre, Scofield starred in many Shakespeare plays and played the title role in Ben Jonson’s Volpone in Peter Hall’s production for the Royal National Theatre (1977). Highlights of his career in modern theatre include the roles of Sir Thomas More in Robert Bolt’s A Man for All Seasons (1960), Charles Dyer in Dyer’s play Staircase, staged by the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966, the definitive Laurie in John Osborne’s A Hotel in Amsterdam (1968), and Antonio Salieri in the original stage production of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus (1979). He was subsequently the voice of the Dragon in another play by Robert Bolt, a children’s drama The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew. Expresso Bongo, Staircase and Amadeus were filmed with other actors, but Scofield starred in the screen versions of A Man for All Seasons (1966) and King Lear (1971). Other major screen roles include the obsessed Nazi Colonel in The Train (1964), Strether in a 1977 TV adaptation of Henry James’s novel The Ambassadors, Tobias in A Delicate Balance (1973), Professor Moroi in the film of János Nyíri’s If Winter Comes (1980), for BBC Television, Mark Van Doren in Robert Redford’s film Quiz Show (1994), and Thomas Danforth in Nicholas Hytner’s film adaptation (1996) of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible.

Scofield was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 1956 New Year Honours. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor for A Man for All Seasons and was nominated as Best Supporting Actor for Quiz Show. Theatrical accolades include a 1962 Tony Award for A Man for All Seasons. In 1969, Scofield became the sixth performer to win the Triple Crown of Acting, winning an Emmy Award for Outstanding Single Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role for Male of the Species. He was also one of only eight actors to win both the Tony and the Oscar for the same role on stage and film. He was appointed a Companion of Honour (CH) in the 2001 New Year Honours. In 2002 he was awarded the honorary degree of D. Litt by the University of Oxford. In 2004 a poll of actors of the Royal Shakespeare Company, including Ian McKellen, Donald Sinden, Janet Suzman, Ian Richardson, Antony Sher and Corin Redgrave, acclaimed his Lear as the greatest Shakespearean performance ever. Scofield appeared in many radio dramas for BBC Radio 4, including in later years plays by Peter Tinniswood: On the Train to Chemnitz (2001) and Anton in Eastbourne (2002). The latter was Tinniswood’s last work and was written especially for Scofield, an admirer of Anton Chekhov. He was awarded the 2002 Sam Wanamaker Prize.

Scofield married actress Joy Parker in 1943. The couple had two children; Martin (born 1944), a lecturer in 19th-century English literature at the University of Kent, and Sarah (born 1951).

He declined the honour of a knighthood on three occasions, but was appointed CBE in 1956 and became a Companion of Honour in 2001.

Scofield died on 19 March 2008 at the age of 86 at a hospital near his home in Sussex, England, from leukemia. more

Returning to television in the early 1970s, Widmark received an Emmy nomination for his performance as the U.S. President in the TV movie Vanished (1971), a Fletcher Knebel political thriller. In 1972-73, he reprised his detective role from Madigan (1968) with six 90-minute episodes on the NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie. The mini-series Benjamin Franklin (1974) was a unique experiment of four 90-minute dramas, each with a different actor performing the title role: Widmark, Beau Bridges, Lloyd Bridges, Eddie Albert, Melvyn Douglas and Willie Aames (Franklin at age 12). 5-year-

5-year-old boy went to visit his grandmother one day. Playing with his toys in her bedroom while grandma was dusting, he looked up and said, ‘Grandma, how come you don’t have a boyfriend now that Grandpa went to heaven?’
Grandma replied, ‘Honey, my TV is my boyfriend. I can sit in my bedroom and watch it all day long. The religious programs make me feel good and the comedies make me laugh. I’m happy with my TV as my boyfriend.’
Grandma turned on the TV, and the reception was terrible. She started adjusting the knobs, trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she started hitting the backside of the TV hoping to fix the problem.
The little boy heard the doorbell ring, so he hurried to open the door and there stood Grandma’s minister. The minister said, ‘Hello son, is your Grandma home?’
The little boy replied, ‘Yeah, she ‘s in the bedroom bangin’ her boyfriend.’
The minister fainted.

Florida police are expected to announce that they are ready to close murder investigation of Adam Walsh

Florida police are expected to announce today that they are ready to close the 1981 abduction and murder investigation of Adam Walsh, one of the country’s most famous cold cases, law enforcement sources tell ABC News.

The 6-year-old son of “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh went missing from a Hollywood, Fla., mall more than 27 years ago. His head was discovered two weeks later, though his body was never found.

Hollywood police said they would hold a news conference on the case this afternoon. Police sources did not immediately identify the suspected killer, but Walsh has long said that be believes Ottis Toole, a drifter who died in prison in 1996, killed his son.

The murder tranformed Walsh’s life, turning him from a middle-class hotel marketing executive into one of country’s best known advocates for missing children.

“We were absolutely devastated, heartbroken,” he told Larry King on the 25th anniversary of the incident. “We had nothing in common but the anger and the grief. And [Walsh’s wife, Reve] said, ‘You know, we’re destroying ourselves. This is not something that Adam would want. We’ve forgotten who the real victim is.'”

Walsh, who will turn 63 later this month, started the Adam Walsh Child Resource Center and co-founded the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. His television show, “America’s Most Wanted,” debuted in 1988.

Since 1984, the center has assisted law enforcement with more than 148,160 missing child cases, resulting in the recovery of more than 132,300 children.

“America’s Most Wanted” went on to become one of the country’s longest-running television shows. It began profiling missing persons, especially children, in 1991. It was briefly canceled in 1996, but reappeared after a public outcry. The show says its reports have led to the capture of more than 1,000 fugitives.

Slain student called 911, but no one came in time

NEW YORK (CNN) — Brittany Zimmerman, a 21-year-old college student who wanted to be a doctor, called 911 as she was being attacked by a stranger, police say.
But the police did not come for 48 minutes. By that time, Zimmerman was dead. Her fiance found her body.

Although the dispatcher claimed later to have heard nothing, the 911 tape captured screams, gasps and what sounds like a struggle, according to the court documents.

Spring was in the air when college student Zimmerman returned April 2 from classes at the University of Wisconsin to the off-campus apartment she shared with her fiance, Jordan Gonnering.

He was out when she arrived home. He discovered her body when he returned.

Zimmerman had been stabbed multiple times in her chest, near her heart. She’d also been beaten and strangled, according to warrants released recently. Watch an update on the case »

Zimmerman managed to call 911 at 12:20 p.m. The call was taken by the Dane County 911 center and an internal investigation revealed the dispatcher did not hear any sounds that would signal an emergency.

Because of that, police were not sent to the apartment until 48 minutes after Zimmerman made the call. Her fiance was already there.

Dane County has taken some harsh criticism from the public regarding the delay, and tough questions have been raised about whether a prompt response might have saved Zimmerman’s life.

Police are still looking for her killer. more

Man thrown into air dies after colleagues fail to catch him

Man thrown into air at retirement party dies after colleagues fail to catch him
KUSATSU, Shiga — A 60-year-old man who was thrown into the air in celebration at a farewell party for his retirement died after his colleagues failed to catch him and he landed on the floor, it has been learned.

Following his death, the man’s 59-year-old wife filed a police complaint against three colleagues who threw him up into the air, accusing them of gross negligence resulting in death.

“He worked until the retirement age. We had been looking forward to going to various places as a couple and were excited that we would be able to spend a relaxing time together,” she said. “No matter what I say he won’t come back, but I want to find out why this happened.”

The man had worked at the branch of a major transportation firm in Ritto, Shiga Prefecture. According to the complaint and sources familiar with the incident, about 40 people including the head of the branch and most of the other drivers working there attended a farewell party at an inn in Kusatsu on the evening of Nov. 18, 2007.

During the event, the 60-year-old’s colleagues threw him into the air in celebration, but they failed to catch him, and he landed on the tatami floor. He suffered neck and backbone injuries, leaving him with a disability in which he lost the use of his limbs and suffered respiratory failure. He died in September 2008 from blood poisoning. more

Did you know that a man racked up $81,039 in parking fines ?

NEW YORK, Dec. 15 (UPI) — The New York City Department of Finance says a man racked up $81,039 in parking fines but the alleged offender denies the claims.

The department said Alexander Khamish, 30, has incurred 415 parking tickets since 2004 — the largest amount of fines racked up by anyone during the period — but the alleged serial offender contends the tickets resulted from identity theft, the New York Post reported Friday.

“Basically, someone registered (the offending) vehicles under my name,” Khamish said. “I knew about this a couple years ago, but I didn’t know it (involved an) $80,000 (debt).

“Someone did register vehicles under my name before I found out, but I was going back and forth with the DMV, and from the last I heard, I thought everything was OK.”

Finance Department spokesman Owen Stone said Khamish’s claims would be investigated.

“If it winds up his identity was stolen, he won’t be responsible for the tickets,” Stone said.

Did you know that Tuckruskye, 44 is charged with endangering the welfare of a 13-year-old boy

A Baldwin PTA official has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after she and a 13-year-old boy were caught in the backseat of a vehicle parked behind an elementary school, Nassau police said.

Joan Tuckruskye, 44, of 1111 Steele Blvd., was in the backseat of a 2008 Nissan Pathfinder in a parking lot behind Meadow Elementary on Northern Boulevard with the boy Friday night, said Det. Lt. Kevin Smith.

Tuckruskye and the boy, who police did not identify, were naked from the waist down, Smith said.

Tuckruskye, a vice-president in charge of fundraising of the Baldwin Middle School parent-teacher association, was released without bail at her arraignment Saturday. She could not be reached last night.

First Precinct officers found the two after they approached the parked, running Pathfinder at about 10:30 p.m. Friday.

When officers asked for identification, the boy told them he was 18. He was taken to Nassau University Medical Center for an exam and it was determined he is 13, Smith said.

Tuckruskye told police the two were kissing, Smith said.

“Based on the investigation and the uncooperative nature of both the victim and the defendant, we were unable to establish anything more than the fact she was endangering the welfare of child,” Smith said. “The obvious question is whether or not a sexual act took place.” more

Gov. Paterson couldn’t see the humor in a "Saturday Night Live" skit

Gov. Paterson didn’t see the humor in a “Saturday Night Live” bit that mocked his blindness.

During the “Weekend Update” segment of NBC’s irreverent comedy show, actor Fred Armisen played Paterson, imitating his wandering eye, gravelly voice and blunt, self-effacing demeanor
But Paterson and advocates for the visually impaired didn’t appreciate stock blind jokes that had Armisen pretending to be disoriented and wandering aimlessly.

“I can take a joke,” Paterson told reporters.

But he called the SNL spoof a “third-grade depiction of people and the way they look” that could lead others to believe that “disability goes hand-in-hand with an inability to run a government or business.” more
